EXERCISE AND RESIDENCE LIFE
Let's face it, exercise is something a lot of us have
been able to take for granted for most of our lives.
Between running around as kids, school and community
sports and just plain walking, maintaining an active
lifestyle was simple enough. With the transition to
university however, much of that has changed. New commitments,
time restrictions distractions and the daunting task
of adjusting to your new home can all take away from
your overall physical fitness. Obviously nutrition is
a big factor, but just as important is your commitment
to physical activity, and exercising your body will
often require a conscious effort.
What needs to be realized is the importance of keeping
in shape while in university. "The body is the temple
of the mind," and it's hard to keep up with your academic
responsibilities when lack of respect for your body
begins to interfere.
The benefits of exercise are many, and it's surprising
just how little effort it takes to make a difference
in your life. Try signing up for the inter-mural sports
or walking to East Side Mario's instead of taking the
bus. Register at The Pulse or going swimming during
public hours. Whatever the level of fitness you want
to achieve, there are options all over campus to help
you get there. This section acts as an introduction
to the different aspects of health in terms of exercise
in the university setting, and a place to start exploring
the possibilities of physical fitness.
