ACADEMIC STRATEGIES
Academic Hygiene
• Attend your classes
- Be punctual and prepared
- Take quality notes
> Make them concise and legible
> Writing your own notes
helps you retain the information so do not rely on other
people for your own personal note-taking
> Review your notes
- Ask questions in class if you do not understand
the concepts
> Don’t be afraid to
ask questions
> No such thing as a “stupid”
question if the answer is relevant to the subject at
hand
Assistance
• Seek help when needed whether for medical
or academic purposes
- Many resources on campus to help you out
> Friends
> Teaching assistants
> Professors
> Help sessions
> Learning Seminars
- Form study groups if you can work in a
group
> Compare and exchange notes
> Help explain and test concepts
and ideas with one another
- Stick with study habits that best suits
you
Mood
• Always be optimistic and stay positive
- A positive outlook enhances motivation,
persistence and performance
- Most students experience some sort of
decline in their average grades
- Always ask for help when needed
- Do not procrastinate
- Be able to accept criticism
