INTRODUCTION

The amount of time you spend in school not only helps in developing your education, but it helps in shaping your social world as well as contributing to your overall development. The life transition between high school and university is potentially challenging for most students and can be very stressful for some because of the amount of responsibility and expectation placed on oneself. This is the reason why our group decided to create this website: To help fellow first years learn to adapt to university life.

The purpose of this part of our website is to:

• Provide you with academic strategies to help you through first-year
• Show the difference academically between high school and university
• Provide you a rough guideline of how to academically succeed

This transition between high school and university essentially changes your outlook on life. You no longer take your education for granted, but as something critical for your future development and achievement. Whatever you decide to do for the next couple of years plays an impact in the future you will eventually have.

This event marks the movement from adolescence to young adulthood. Since your future is impacted by the grades you get, most students feel that just concentrating on academically succeeding is the way to enjoy a healthy university life. This is not so though. Neglecting other aspects of your life may lead you to in fact do worse in university such as not getting enough sleep, or not eating healthy and not exercising. In addition, if you are just concentrating on your academics, you are also missing out on a lot of other aspects that a university like McMaster has to offer to you such as the social or athletic side. Ones grade point average should be important, but it should not interfere with other aspects of your life. Just remember to take care of yourself first, meet new people and try new things.

NOTE: The content and material on this site are just some guidelines to help you in the academic aspect of your university life. Not all strategies listed will work for all people. Everyone is different. Take what is good for you.
