JUST FOLLOW YOUR NOSE?!
Coming to university can lead to a dramatic change
in lifestyle. Many elements of the new environment may
be completely new. Suddenly, we don’t have parents
to tell us to do our homework. We have the option of
staying up all night. We can have as many or as few
meals as we want – and darn it, if we want potato
chips for dinner, we can have potato chips!
But all of these changes have the potential to create
quite a bit of strain on our well-being. With great
power comes great responsibility: Our decisions of how
we choose to live our lives are going to directly affect
our overall health. And this is where the difficulty
begins. Truth be told, the transition to university
isn’t easy for everyone. Many people, including
the creators of this web site, have stumbled –
and perhaps are still stumbling – along this arduous
road to self-discovery.
So how do we take care of ourselves? After months
of research, discussion, and personal experimenting,
we – the creators of this page – have decided
that there is no simple answer. We’ve decided
that there isn’t a universal standard of health.
But what we will try to do is to help you, the first
year university student, make your own informed and
educated decisions on defining and perhaps achieving
your own personal standard of health.
We will educate you, providing information relevant
to certain focuses of health. We will guide you with
tools to help you self-evaluate so that you can see
the direction you want to be headed. We will offer general
advice and guidelines – maps that you may or may
not use. But in the end, in the philosophy of university,
it is up to you to make your own choices. Follow
your nose.
